Why can't I sell my services even though I'm good at what I do?

28 days to visibility marketing nervous system somatic visibility Sep 13, 2026

You can't sell your services, even though you're good at what you do, because selling asks your nervous system to be seen at a level it hasn't agreed to yet. Your skill got you to the edge of that line. But now your body won't let you cross it. So you remain highly skilled, trusted by the few who find you, and underpaid. I call that line your visibility ceiling, and it is the reason so many gifted women stay the best kept secret in their niche.

I know because I was one of them.

The best kept secret in Sedona

Five years ago, if you'd asked me whether I was afraid to be seen, I would have laughed. I'd spoken on stages. I'd guided rooms of hundreds through breathwork. By that point I had led more than 2,000 people through some kind of transformation. Fear of visibility was not my problem, thank you very much.

Then I looked at my marketing.

My sales pitches were buried at the bottom of long poetic posts, where only the truly devoted would find them. My prices were "pay what you can." My calls to action were always softened with "only if it resonates." When I described what I did, I watered it down until it sounded like a nice thing you might try someday, instead of the thing that had changed my clients' lives.

Give me an hour with a woman one-on-one and I could take her somewhere no one else could. I knew that. My clients knew that. And still, month after month, I'd sit at my computer to sell that exact work and find a hundred reasons to do it softly, later, or not at all.

I wasn't afraid to be seen. I was afraid to be seen trying. Afraid to be seen asking for money. Afraid to be seen as salesy, pushy, or "one of those coaches." So I kept the sales part invisible and wondered why my income was stalling at $5k-8k a month.

Why being good at your craft doesn't sell it

Here's the thing no one told me and I'm going to tell you...

Being good at your work and selling your work use two completely different parts of you.

When you're in session, you're in your gift. Your nervous system knows that room. You've been there a thousand times. You feel safe, so you're brilliant. You are in command.

When you sell, you step out of the gift and into exposure. Now you're standing in front of people saying "I can help you, this is what it costs, and I want you to say yes." That's a different kind of visible. You're visible in your power and visible in your desire, at the same time. For most of the women I work with, their body has never once been shown that this is safe.

The spiritual healers, leaders, and coaches I've worked with feel shame about wanting more. They feel awkward talking about money. They feel selfish holding their rates when not everyone can afford it. And underneath that discomfort is a nervous system that learned it's not safe to be seen.

So the body does what bodies do with unsafe things. It avoids. And it's clever about it. It doesn't always register as fear but usually as wisdom like:

You "don't have time" to write the offer. You "need to finish one more certification" first. You "don't want to be pushy," so you mention it once and never again. You "let people come to you," which sounds spiritual and works out to no one coming.

Every one of those is your nervous system protecting you from the exposure of selling. None of them is the truth about your value.

What a visibility ceiling actually is

I've spent over 10,000 hours in one-on-one somatic sessions with women who do sacred work. High integrity healers, coaches, founders, guides. Skilled, certified, deeply trained women. And the pattern I saw over and over was this: their income was capped at exactly the level of visibility their body could tolerate.

Not their skill level. Their visibility level.

You see, your nervous system has a ceiling for how much attention, power and money it will let you hold at once. Below the ceiling you feel fine. You can help people. You can even get referrals. Push above it, say by holding your rate without discounting it or launching something publicly, and your system sends the signals. Tightness in your chest. Brain fog. A sudden urge to make it cheaper, smaller, softer. Or the classic one, exhaustion the moment you sit down to do it.

That ceiling was set by imprints from long before you had a business.

The time you let yourself shine and someone got jealous. The time you asked for something and were made to feel greedy. The time being the "good, humble one" kept you safe in your family.

Your body took notes and wrote a rule: this visible, this powerful, this paid, and no further.

Selling your services asks you to break that rule every single day. Which is why the more talented you are, the more it can hurt. You can feel exactly how far you're meant to reach, and exactly how far your body will let you.

Meanwhile, someone with half your depth sells out

This is the part that stings, so let's unpack it.

You've watched women with a fraction of your training launch the same week as you and sell out. You told yourself it was her audience, her algorithm, her extroversion, her lack of integrity even. She probably manipulates people. Ew.

But in truth it wasn't any of that. It's that her body lets her be seen. Yours doesn't, yet. That's the whole difference, and the good news is that it's a difference you can change.

The 4 ways the ceiling holds you

Across my 10,000 hours of deep one on one work with my clients I noticed the ceiling showed up in four patterns. You'll probably recognize yourself in more than one.

The Striver sells through overwork. She'll over deliver, over explain and stack on bonuses so no one can say she didn't earn the money. She's comfortable in the hard work. Underneath: if I don't hold it all together, it will fall apart.

The Hider has the offer half written in her notes app. Someone louder already said it. She's comfortable behind the scenes. Underneath: if I'm too much, I'll be rejected.

The Performer only sells when it's polished and safe. Soft prices, buried pitch, nothing that could be judged. She's comfortable when everyone else is happy. Underneath: if I'm not lovable, I'll be abandoned.

The Dreamer has the vision and the calling and none of the follow through on the 3D stuff like pricing and asking. It all feels beneath the work. She's comfortable in the visioning. Underneath: if I try to fit my vision in a box, I'll lose myself.

Whichever pattern is running, the result is the same. Your excellent work remains hidden. A mission that's meant for thousands, reaching a few dozen. And your income doesn't match your expertise.

Why more strategy won't fix it

You've probably tried the strategy route. The course on how to craft your offers. The copywriting workshop that promises to be the last one you'll need. The funnel coach. Maybe more than one.

Strategy is the car. And you need the car to get where you want to go. But a nervous system that doesn't feel safe being seen puts a boot on it. You can know exactly how to sell and still not do it, because knowing lives in your thinking mind and your visibility ceiling lives in the automatic part of you that decides what's safe before you've had a single conscious thought. That's why you can't think your way out of it.

Hear me when I tell you: you don't have a marketing problem. You've hit your visibility ceiling. And ceilings don't move with more information. They move when you show your body, in the body, that being seen, powerful and paid is safe now.

This is the same reason the cringe you feel when you post about your business never responds to a better caption formula.

What changed for me

I stopped trying to think my way past it and started working with my nervous system the way I'd been working with my clients' for years. Breathwork. Somatic hypnosis. Small, repeated, physical experiences of being visible and staying safe.

The poetic posts with the pitch hidden at the bottom turned into clear offers with clear prices. "Only if it resonates" turned into "this is for you, here's how to join." I stopped discounting my work before anyone had asked me to. And I stopped being afraid to admit that I'm here to make real money doing my favorite thing in the world, and to teach other women to do the same.

Let me tell you... it's a whole lot more fun to sell and get paid when you're not hitting your head on a visibility ceiling.

Ready to raise yours?

I built 28 Days to Visibility for the woman who is excellent at her work and still hiding it. It's a four week somatic training that teaches your nervous system to hold being seen, so you can market and sell your sacred work without the cringe, the discounting or the disappearing act.

Each week works one of the four patterns above, with a teaching, a guided somatic practice you'll keep forever, and small daily challenges that raise your ceiling a little at a time. By the end you're not forcing yourself to sell. You're selling from a body that finally agrees with your mission.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I help clients but not sell to them? Helping and selling use different parts of your nervous system. In session you're in your gift, which feels safe. Selling puts you visibly in your power and your want at the same time, and if your nervous system learned that exposure was risky when you were a kid, it will avoid it no matter how skilled you are.

What is a visibility ceiling? A visibility ceiling is the level of attention, power and income your nervous system will let you hold before it starts pulling you back to the safe and familiar. It's set by early imprints, not by your certifications, and it shows up as procrastination, under pricing, softened offers and exhaustion around marketing.

Do I need a better marketing strategy to sell my services? Usually not. Most skilled women already know more strategy than they use. If you know what to do and still don't do it, the block is in your body, not your plan, and it responds to somatic work rather than another course. Somatic work is the fuel that gets the car (strategy) to go.

How do I raise my visibility ceiling? Through repeated, body-level experiences of being seen and staying safe: breathwork, somatic hypnosis and small daily visibility challenges that stretch your capacity gradually. That's exactly how 28 Days to Visibility is built, one pattern per week, with practices you keep and reuse at every new level of your business.
