The Secret to Overcoming Imposter Syndrome as a Soulpreneur

habits soulpreneurship Dec 30, 2022

As a mentor to cyclebreaking soulpreneurs for the last 6 years, and as someone who has personally struggled with imposter syndrome, I totally get how debilitating and stifling of an experience it can be. But I also know that it is possible to overcome imposter syndrome and create wild abundance with joy & purpose!

Imposter syndrome is characterized by feelings of self-doubt, inadequacy, and the belief that you are not as competent or capable as others may perceive you to be. These feelings can be especially acute for cyclebreaking soulpreneurs, who may be particularly sensitive to living in alignment with their values and purpose and who may hold extra high standards for themselves.

But the truth is, imposter syndrome is really very common. In fact, research has shown that 70% of people experience imposter syndrome at some point in their lives. So if you're struggling with imposter syndrome, know that you are not alone.

So, what can you do to overcome imposter syndrome as a soulpreneur?

Here are a few strategies that may help:

Recognize that imposter syndrome is common

When it's happening to you it feels so real but it's important to recognize that imposter syndrome is a very common experience, and you are not alone in feeling this way. Remind yourself that it's natural to feel uncertainty or self-doubt, especially when you're taking on new challenges or stepping outside your comfort zone. I like to tell my clients to celebrate when you feel this way because its a sign you’re taking big leaps!

Acknowledge your achievements

Take some time to reflect on your accomplishments, big and small. Make a list of all the things you've achieved, and remind yourself that you are capable and competent. Just because you're starting something new doesn't mean you're starting at zero. You have a long history of experience, education, and expertise.

Seek support

Surround yourself with supportive people who can help you build confidence and remind you of your strengths and abilities. This might include friends, family, mentors, or masterminds specifically for soulpreneurs. It can be such a relief to bring your feelings of self doubt out into a safe space.

Practice self-compassion

Be kind and compassionate to yourself. Remember that it's okay to make mistakes and that no one is perfect. Instead of beating yourself up, try to reframe mistakes as opportunities for learning and growth. Afterall, it's only those who never try who never make mistakes.

Set realistic goals and celebrate your progress

Set clear, achievable goals for yourself and celebrate your progress along the way. This will help you feel more in control of your journey and will give you a sense of accomplishment as you move forward. Use client testimonials and positive customer feedback to boost your confidence

One way to combat imposter syndrome is to seek out and surround yourself with positive feedback from clients and customers. This can help you see yourself more objectively and recognize that you are already making a positive impact and adding value with your soul work. Share client testimonials or positive feedback on your website or social media platforms, or create a "brag book" where you can collect and refer back to these positive affirmations when you're feeling self-doubt. I keep a “client love” file on my phone and refer to it any time I slip into self doubt.

Don’t let imposter syndrome hold you back any longer. Use these tips and tools to reclaim your confidence to live your purpose. And remember you don’t have to go it alone.
